How I spent my day...

My WHOLE day.....

I feel like I am swimming in strawberries. Seriously. BUT... I will be able to enjoy strawberries all year, whenever I feel like it and I shouldn't run out. I can have strawberry pie, strawberry jam, strawberry shortcake, strawberry sauce, juice drinks with strawberries, strawberry salad, strawberry soup, ......... ok, maybe the soup is taking it a little far, but I will definitely do the juice drinks and the shortcake.

ah...bringing back memories of high school. My mom did practically the ENTIRE garden with strawberries one year, and the next couple of years we were overrun. I was selling them on the side of the road, no joke. You develop really great back and leg muscles from all the squatting and leaning, though!

My parents bought me a hamster at the beginning of that summer and it chewed a hole in the corner of the box and was lost in the van before they got home. Found it at the end of the summer (2 months later), under the front seat, snacking on years old gummy bears and a road map. I have no doubt that its diet consisted mainly of strawberries. moral of the story? check under your seats, at least every couple of months.

*roflol* Look under seats every couple months... Check. No hamsters here. *whew* I have thought about building a box and planting strawberries next year.... I dumped close to $40 on strawberries.... and I kinda wanted more but.... So, I'm thinking that after the first year (with the cost of the box and the plants combined) I could have my strawberry garden paying for itself.... Poor hubby... another project. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to build the box. :) Hmm.... Gotta think about this..........

re: your own strawberries...they don't really harvest the first year, and then by the 3rd year they're basically "done." They'll keep volunteering after that, but won't be as big, tasty, or pretty. If you do a couple of rows of them in your garden, you can have them on alternating schedules (plant one row one year and harvest the other and vice verca), and that seems to work well and would probably provide all you'd ever want. Maybe not enough to give away jam to everyone you know (hint), but close :)

btw, I wanna see a post about the compost and garden. If you show me your dirty progress, I'll show you mine!!

Hmm.... have to think about that one.... sounds like more trouble than I planned.... even though I am over here now doing compost and recycling and chickens and, and.... No. I am not doing a cow. And no, I am not turning into a farmer. Stop laughing.

Pia, they were. ;)

M, I said stop. Seriously.

Thank you. :) Oh, so, I know we need to get to C when you guys are there to see all things new..... I think we need to plan two get-togethers.... one in C and one here in F/H.... Monday we are gutting everything from the living room back..... switching hall (will go through center instead of outside) expanding B's room, redoing bath (and giving that an extra foot) and downsizing T's room just a touch. *whew* Oh yeah, changing our door to our room, too... that will come out into the hall instead of the DR.... ok, now I'm tired.
